Led a team of 7 students for 5 months to design a buildable stargazing platform for an island site; our winning design was built by hand on site
- Built and led a team of 7, shared out the roles and kept the project moving from first sketches to the final
- Explored 4 concepts and chose a ring platform shaped like a radio-telescope dish, where people lie on a rope net and look at the sky
- Designed for hard limits: only materials we could bring to the island, harsh weather, vandalism, and a structure students could assemble by hand
- Kept the structure simple enough to build without a crew: one flat timber deck, cut from a few beams with almost no waste
- Developed the build-ready details with engineers and architects: joints, stable footings for sandy ground and load-spreading supports
- Prepared an exact materials estimate, which went straight to purchasing and on-site preparation
- Made physical models and the presentation, and defended the project in the quarter-final, semi-final and final
NoteI left for an internship at KLAUZURA Architecture Bureau I was invited to just as construction began, so I handed the team over to a new captain and stayed on calls with them throughout the build.
